COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL REFORM PROGRAM

Purpose

To improve student achievement by supporting the implementation of comprehensive school reforms based on scientifically based research and effective practices so that all children, especially those in low-performing, high-poverty schools, can meet challenging State content and academic achievement.

Organizational Premise

An approach to school improvement that features unified, coherent, and integrated strategies in a comprehensive design will be more successful than implementing the same strategies in isolation.

Eligibility for Comprehensive School Reform

  • Schools that can identify strong needs in the areas of student performance in core academic areas (STARS data, norm-referenced data)
  • Schools that have data showing significant areas of need based upon data related to student attendance, behavior, parent non-involvement, etc.
  • Schools who identify significant needs related to poverty, lack of competence in English, mobility, cultural differences, etc.

Resources from a CSR Grant

  • Minimum of $50,000 per year for three years. Funds may be used to contract with external service providers, to pay teachers for work done during non-contract time, to provide for professional development, etc.
