State Title II Summary Report
Nebraska institutions of higher education submit an Institutional report
to NDE Teacher Education Programs each spring. The information is
summarized into the Title II
Summary Report which becomes part of the material offered to the State
Board of Education during the annual approval process of colleges and
universities. A four-year composite, the
Title II Comparison Report
,
compares totals of enrolled students, student teachers, and program
completers in Nebraska institutions.
Nebraska Council on Teacher
Education (NCTE)
Nebraska is unique in that it is the only state with an advisory council,
which is considered a legally constituted body, that advises the State
Board of Education about issues related to high standards for teachers and
administrators and statewide quality education. NCTE consists of equal
representation from teachers, teacher education administrators, and
governance representatives.
National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
NCATE
is the accrediting body for colleges and universities preparing teachers
and administrators for work in elementary and secondary schools.
Recognized by the US Department of Education, the NCATE accreditation
process reviews the professional education units for initial teacher
preparation and advanced levels of educational preparation. In Nebraska,
colleges and universities are not required to participate in the NCATE
accreditation process. Through volunteer participation, 14 of Nebraska's
17 colleges and universities with teacher education programs are currently
accredited by NCATE.
Interstate New Teacher
Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC)
As a partner in the
INTASC consortium, Nebraska has developed core standards to provide a
basis for teacher preparation, licensure, and professional development.
The standards are the foundation for competencies contained in Rule 20
guidelines.
